What kind of government makes rules like these?

1. Banning the sale or wearing of heels on women's shoes over 2" high.


2. Requiring the wearing of warm scarves when the temperature drops below 40 degrees F.


3. Banning sunbathing in all New York City parks and beaches.


4. Requiring a serving of broccoli and carrots with every restaurant meal served within the five boroughs.


5. Banning the dangerous habit of swimming at ocean beaches.


6. Requiring the unplugging of all TVs and toaster ovens when not in use, due to fire hazard.


7. Banning any employer from demanding more than three hours per day of computer work, due to risk of carpal tunnel syndrome and eye strain. (Any work on Bloomberg machines will be exempted due to the important role of financial services in the city.)


8. Requiring the wearing of sturdy rubbers during rain, and lined boots during snow.


9. Requiring the wearing of hats during sunny days, and wool hats when the temperature drops below 40 degrees F.

You're kidding, I laughed when I read the link, but then I read the answers .............Why is BigSky 5 the only one who went so far as to read the comments? Was no one shocked enough to look further and see if this were true? And why does Kalyansr think it so wonderful that the "government care so much" that they're taking away your right to dress as you see fit, that the 'care enough to invade your home etc? ARE YOU NUTS?





But the answer to your question is totalitarianism- and if you don't pay attention, don't be surprised when you receive your new 'dress code' .
Reply:It's all about the extreme left 'Nanny State'! With rules like this, people are giving up their individual rights and responsibilities to big brother! Isn't this exactly what the American way of life is against?! Today it's the list you gave, tomorrow it'll be 10 times worse, since government hardly ever scales back, it only grows bigger!
Reply:Well I live in New York and I have to say these laws are passing for 2 reasons , 1 being that the bleeding heart liberals have taken over a city and 2 the people in New York don't care very much , there not people that fight politically , they much rather be home hanging out smoking weed . Anyway I find all this sad but what I find sadder is if these laws do pass , I can guarantee they will be coming to a city near you .

I believe both La and Tx are adding BMI to their school children's report cards. Tx wants to fine parents for not going to Teacher conferences, and wants to inoculate girls for an STD.





There are cases where the parent/child relationship is severed because a parent allows a child to get overweight. And there is a systematic ban on sports happening across the nation. Dodge ball was the first to go . . .





I read an article recently that suggested that parents "need" government intervention, "help," to raise our children, because they watch too much TV, and are becoming glutenous consumers.





The fact is, sadly, I am not in the least surprised by anything posted here.





I think we opened ourselves up for this when we allowed the government to force free citizens to purchase auto-insurance. I've often stated that the time would come when we are "required" to purchase deodorant . . . people still laugh.





My oldest child had to take a breath-a-lizer before he could attend prom . . . then had to surrender his keys until the event had concluded. Essentially making the (good kids) hostages for the evening. Those with a desire to participate in bad behavior did so regardless.





It is an insidious virus that has infected our nation from the bottom up. We've created the monster, fed the monster, and now we must learn how to overcome the monster.

Reply:Um, yes, it is a joke. If you look under the comments you'll find out that the poster routinely parodies nanny state legislation. And if you dig a little deeper and actually GO to the NY Times you won't find this story ANYWHERE! Nor will you find a mention of it on any real news sites. And think for half a second, if this were real, don't you think 75% of America would be up in arms by now? C'mon, just because it's on the internet does NOT mean it's true. That anyone could even THINK it's true just means that there really IS a sucker born every minute. Sorry to be harsh, but please do a little research before posting.

Reply:Whiners, that's why. Someone thinks something is offensive, unsafe, unhealthy, etc. Since no one today seems capable of taking responsibility for themselves, they whine to the government to "do something". Since the only job politicians have is to pass laws and spend taxpayer's money, they pass a law. Somewhere in the past half century or more our politicos have decided it's their job to micromanage us lesser beings. Check state and city laws then move somewhere with less nanny regulations - or get involved in politics and try to change it where you are.
Reply:I think most of these rules are very sensible, and for the good of the citizens. Instead of criticizing the government, be thankful that your lawmakers actually care for you.
