Tick Question!?

I live in the heart land of ticks! I hate them with a passion! I would like to start mowing my lawn, but am totaly freaked out I will pick up a tick! If I wear rain boots while I mow, will it keep them off me? What can I do to prevent them from getting on me or my kids while they play in the yard???

Please help me!!! Just thinking of having one on me or the kids make me sick to my stomach! And by the way in case someone says, "your in the wrong place, why are you there?" I moved up here for my husband he really missed his family and I love the small town we are in!

Tick Question!?
Truly, you cannot go herbal and all crunchy on this one.

DE ET in the bug spray, and as another answer said.

Cut your hedges back and your lawn short.

also if deer pass through your yard, start fencing in the yard and putting a wide mulch edge , about 2 feet or better just inside the fence line.

The fence deters the deer somewhat, and the ticks do not like to come from the cool woodlands through the hot dry mulch to crawl into your yard on their own.

Also just try typing in ticks, and tick pesticides into the computer, there are alot of good answerer's from local Universities on line.
Reply:Maybe choose a smaller portion of the yard and set it aside as a fenced in play yard for the kids. You could feel a little safer and in control of your environment then! Really check with the local Universities! Report It

Reply:Off! with DEET. wear long pants and spray the legs and your shoes with it.
Reply:Use a good repellent such as Cutters, mow your yard, trim back bushes, hedges, tree limbs, etc..... Use a granular insecticide around the perimeter of your lawn and you should have no more tick problems.
Reply:Use bug repellant. Works for ticks too.
