ADHD learning disability help????

What are some specific learning disabilities that I may have besides ADHD. Ok it litterally takes me 9 + hours a night to complete my homework and im a sophmore in hs. It seems like things go in one ear and out the other and nothing seems to be happening inside. It is still hard for me to tell time and i have to think about right and left and litterally have to picture it. And my reading comprehension skills are xtremely low and i loose my place wile reading sooooo much. NO matter how much and how hard I try...It takes me soooooooooooooo much longer than any other person to learn a simple thing such as a new game.

And also what are characteristics and common behaviors in teens with ADHD. I have always been considered mentally sloooowwww. and really want to know of possible learning disabilities and their names. ohh and i look at things differently like when on a doctors test it asked me why do u wear rain boots...i said jump in puddles. Any opinions on what LD i have. thx!

ADHD learning disability help????
I personally wonder if you have a language processing delay that affects receptive and expressive langauage. There are many times where I've seen kids diagnosed as ADHD, but it's really because they have a hard time processing language that they look that way. Find out if you've ever had a speech and language evaluation- your school should have a speech/language therapist assigned to it (don't assume you don't have one, I bet you do, you just may not see him/her). The school secretary should be able to tell you who the person is. If your building doesn't have a person assigned due to a shortage or something, you should have a department in your district's central office who can handle it. If you can post this question here, you can call and find out.

Do you already have an IEP? You can get one if your ADHD is properly diagnosed and it impacts you negatively. Look into getting one if you don't get assistance from the special education department at your school. There are probably lots of kids who have IEPs at your school that you don't even know about.
Reply:I think we're all saying you can't diagnose yourself. There are lots of types of learning disabilities. Yes, there is dyslexia, which literally means trouble reading, dyscalculia, which means trouble doing math, and dysgraphia, which relates to trouble writing. But that oversimplifies things. Report It

Reply:So get an evaluation done, and be sure to include language processing. I really hope this helps. And thanks for the best answer. Report It

Reply:ADHD deffenetly comes to mind. I have two of those kids. Pluse one husband. Just being a teen your mind goes in all directions, but with ADHD it goes faster than your mind can catch up to it. One way to slow down the prosess to beable to read something and to concentrate on it is to read upside down. I know it is weird but with me and dislexia it was easier to read. You have to realy think of what it is saying. As to if you think differently to the doctors question. That was a good answer. I liked it but i've always been a little weird. And being weird isn't a bad thing.
Reply:You need a psycho educational assessment. I have a child who is different, sees things different and learns differently from others. She was diagnosed as having Non Verbal Learning Disorder. There is always Asperger's Syndrome as well. Your family doctor or your school may have to set it up for you. We went through the family doctor to a pediatrician who recommended the assessment. It was covered by the medical where we live. I homeschool my daughter. She did not fit in at school because of the stress and distractions. It is important to know what style of learner you are so you can modify your educational plan if you are having trouble. You are definitely not a slow learner and if you are spending 9 hours doing your homework you are a hardworking and determined young lady. Good Luck.
Reply:You need help thru special ed at your school. I'm not kidding and making fun of you, I am serious.

Schools are not legally required to help any student with problems unless they are in special ed.

You need to get your parents to ask the school about this. The school won't do anything if you ask them.
Reply:the main thing to you being slow is that you haven't figured out how to control it Wen you read use a marker to keep up and place it above what you are reading instead of under it and as for time most people have a bit of trouble with that just catch some one with a regular watch and ask them what time it is they will tell you 10 till or half past but not tell you the hour it is because they look to the long hand first it tell the seconds and the shorter hand is harder to catch the eye so they just keep up with the hour in there head and if you catch your eyes starting to go into that tunnel vision look away then back to your main focus You get this felling and you sort of disappear no thought just numb well this is a place that you are comfortable but to much of a good thing is a bad thing so have a time set aside and allow yourself to go into this place and tell every one not to disturb you for a while the more your body gets use to this the less this felling will come over you
Reply:My kids all have various levels of ADD. My sons and husband are especially affected. It can range from just simply drifting off (more common in girls) to obvious acting out (mostly through boredom, more common in boys). Did you know that this is thought to be the remaining part of our hunter-gatherer origins? Such skills to adapt quickly to changing situations was a survival instinct. There are many different ways to approach this. First, if you haven't already done so, contact your school counselor and discuss this issue. Secondly, talk to your teachers. As a teacher myself, we are supposed to address the three major types of learning styles-visual (reading, diagrams, pictures), audial (talking, explaining, giving verbal instructions) and kinesthetic (demonstrating, learn by doing). Once you find out how you learn the best, you need to practice learning that way. For example, if you are kinesthetic, you may have to write words and definitions over and over to learn them, If you are an audial learner, you may have to make a tape of the definitions and listen many times. If you are a visual learner, you may have to use flashcards to learn. Most teachers really want to help students, but few students come to us with problems until it's so big that it's hard to come back and pass. AS for the "why do you wear rainboots? " question-your answer was witty and creative! On my first day of classes I have a questionaire that asks "what do you think of when you hear hoofbeats?" I bet your answer wouldn't be horses. (I teach art-performing and visual art classes are full of free thinkers-seek those programs that work to your strengths)
